DC Shopian says Section 144 mainly related to poll day, asks people to carry out routine activities
Deputy commissioner Shopian Dr Owais Ahmad on Wednesday asked the people of the district to carry out their routine activities as usual as the imposition of section 144 was mainly related to poll day.
Responding to a news report about the imposition of section 144 in the area, Ahmad told GK that it was a routine process and a precautionary measure invoked during election period and particularly on the poll days.
"It is mainly related to unauthorised assembly of people and use of loud speakers other than for religious affairs," he said.
There is nothing like people are prohibited to venture out of their homes, he said, maintaining that it will no way affect the public life.
He said that all the schools and colleges in the area will function normally.
An official spokesman in a statement had earlier said that District Magistrate Shopian has ordered imposition of Section 144 for a period of one month starting from May 3.
