Srinagar, Police Double Nakas on Red Alert
While commemorating more terrorist attacks, including fidayeen attacks in Srinagar's summer capital, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has doubled its naka in the city before the upcoming urban local body elections. Official sources said that due to intelligence information, the police has warned Lal that terrorists were desperate to carry out many attacks in the summer capital in the next 48 hours. The warning was given when the terrorists had already targeted three political activists of the National Conference in Srinagar city on Friday, two of whom had been declared dead in the hospital. Sources said there are inputs that about five to six terrorists have been given the task of attacking Srinagar by targeting some important establishments besides "potential target killings of innocent Kashmiris". According to the input, terrorists are part of the suicide squad and also include some foreign terrorists. A police official said on condition of anonymity, "They (the terrorists) are desperate to feel their presence in the city, so when the polling is pronounced, we do not want to take any chances." He said that there was every possibility that the group of terrorists could hide "Somewhere else" within Srinagar. The police officer said, "After killing two political workers, they are hiding and waiting for this time, but our vigilance will eliminate all their designs." Sources said that the police was maintaining close contact with the army and paramilitary for dealing with any unpleasant situation. A red alert was heard on the summer capital on Monday, even though the Pakistani lobby, including separatists, demanded a hartal in the day. Terrorists attacked three workers of National Conference in Karfali Mohalla area yesterday.
